Qualia is the debut full-length album from composer, producer and DJ Paul Kwitek. Qualia, offers a rich tapestry of cinematic themes, layers of ambient sounds, textured chants and symphonic house progressions. It is a masterful and balanced collection that brings a potent mix of groove-charged and danceable songs like the booming title track, the amped Katun, surging Green Tea, and the infectious Elevate among others. On the flipside, Qualia has its share of deeply meditative songs. Paul Kwitek constructs seamless epics of mood, imagination and spiritualism with such delicately produced tracks likeFrom a Letter, Inna, In The Past, 3rd World to name a few. Kwitek’s unique assemblage of odd sound effects, pulsing rhythms, heady instrumentation and production make for some of the most original and compelling electronic music today.
As much a product of experimentation as it is audible art, Qualia integrates various people, city, nature and machine sounds processed into harmonies and slick rhythms. Chants and vocals on some tracks are provided by Neah, Roxanne Morganstern and Indi Kaur who each give a soothing and timeless character and flow to the album. Snowball Project’s Ambivalence as a
five-track EP featuring remixes by standouts like Art G, Evren Furtuna, Isaak
Escamilla and Nicholas Van Orton. The release, which is now available for
download on iTunes and Beatport.com, has ranked as high as no. 6 in
progressivehouse.com’s top 20 charts.
Hailing from Turkey, Snowball Project is the duo of Berk
Yüce and Can Keles who have fused atmospheric house music with very
recognizable progressions that recall the excitement and freshness of early
electronic classics like Inner City’s Good
Life. Production is top notch and their sound imprint is uniquely soothing
yet energetic without being too busy.
Indeed, there is a sense of timelessness to Ambivalence that is cleverly manifested
and tweaked in each succeeding version. Nicholas Van Orton’s remix brings cerebral and dowwntempo elements while
Evren Furtuna offers a more percussive version and introduces a trancelike
vibe, Isaak Escamilla aims for the purer and more ambient experience while the
Art G remix amplifies the tracks’ inherent dance-floor appeal.
